# Deletes a payment that was recorded through the API.

> Only a payment recorded through `POST /v1/payments` can be deleted; any other payment -
recorded in Gorelo or synced from an accounting system - is refused with 409. Also refused
with 409 while Xero or QuickBooks Online is connected.


If the payment had settled an invoice that now owes money again, the invoice goes back from
Paid to Approved. A payment that doesn't exist, has already been deleted, or belongs to
another service provider is a 404.
