# How hourly rates work

> Gorelo calculates labor rates by multiplying a base hourly rate from your Billing Role by a Work Type multiplier to bill emergency, project, or routine work.

Your labor rate for Time Entries is calculated by combining two factors:

1. A base hourly rate determined by your **Billing Role** (such as Technician, Senior Consultant, etc.)
2. A rate multiplier based on the **Work Type** being performed (for example, emergency work might have a higher multiplier than routine support)

Your final labor rate = Base hourly rate (Billing Role) × Multiplier (Work Type).

For example, if a Technician (Billing Role: \$100/hour) performs emergency work (Work Type multiplier: 1.5×), the final labor rate would be \$150/hour.
